APAC-Central’s Impact on Arkansas Construction Education Foundation (ACEF)

Lucas Byrne, Project Manager at APAC-Central, recently spent the past year giving back to the industry as an instructor with the Arkansas Construction Education Foundation (ACEF) Pre-Apprenticeship program. ACEF is the largest nonprofit construction trade school in Arkansas, serving more than 1,000 students statewide since 1994 and partnering with the Associated General Contractors of Arkansas to deliver workforce training programs.

Through 11 after-hours programs focused on heavy civil skills like equipment operation and concrete finishing, ACEF is helping address ongoing workforce shortages by preparing students for real-world careers. APAC-Central was invited to support and help shape the program, and Lucas stepped up to lead as an instructor.

In his role, Lucas provides students with hands-on experience in safe, simulated environments, helping them build practical skills and understand jobsite expectations. Students also gain valuable exposure through jobsite tours and equipment operation, giving them a strong foundation before entering the field. The program boasts an impressive 80–85% retention rate, with many graduates transitioning directly into the workforce.

Lucas’ efforts, alongside others involved in the program, are making a meaningful impact by developing a pipeline for the next generation of construction professionals.

“It’s a testament to Teddy Craft, Murry Cline, and Lucas Byrne in ACEF and their willingness to dive into this and take this on instead of complaining about the problems of the workforce shortages.” -Zach Sloan, ACEF Executive Director

Thank you, Lucas, for your dedication to growing our workforce and supporting the future of the industry!
